Simrit Kaur was born at 12:30 p.m on 12/30 in Athens, Greece in 1979. When she was just over a year old, she moved to South Carolina. Her childhood was steeped in rich Greek culture: she attended the Greek Orthodox Church twice a week where she sang in the church choir, performed in the Greek dance troupe, and attended Greek school where she learned to read, write, and speak Greek. As a young child in the church, she developed an appreciation for the mystical aspects of the ancient Byzantine music that she studied and sang. During these years, Simrit also studied piano and hand drums. She grew up with a daily dose of the Greek folk music of Nana Mouskouri, Glykeria, Parios and Demis Roussos in addition to Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Pink Floyd, Joan Baez, The Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, Jeff Buckley, and many others.
Simrit went to the College of Charleston where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology and Spanish. She then attended Trident Tech., also in Charleston, where she earned a second degree in Biology and Chemistry so that she could become a doctor of Naturopathy. During her college years she sang with blues, rock, and reggae bands. Also during that time, she also studied African drums and played with the African drumming company, Sankofa.
One of Simrit's favorite things to do was to go to the beach alone and sing. She loved this time deeply to connect with her soul. One particular night on the beach, it was very cloudy. As Simrit chanted, the clouds parted and formed a circle of clear sky directly over her, and the moon shone through. This was the turning point for her. It was then she knew that not only had she chosen Music, but that her Muse had chosen her. It was only months later that she took her first Kundalini Yoga class. During the first few minutes of the class, Simrit absolutely knew that Kundalini Yoga would be a life-long tool for her to experience the depth of her soul.
In 2009, Simrit released a two song EP, and both songs, Hey Gobind and Ardas Bhaee, caught fire. Simritâs first album, The Sweetest Nectar (named after her son), came out in 2010. During that time, she began collaborating with the world-renowned Kundalini yoga teacher and gong maestro Harijiwan. Harijiwan then introduced Simrit to Anthony Molina who is the bass player for the rock band Mercury Rev. Simrit and Anthony had an incredible musical chemistry, and the White Sun band began.
Simrit tours internationally with White Sun (Simrit Kaur, Anthony Molina, and Harijiwan). She makes her home in Nevada City, California, with her family. Her first album, The Sweetest Nectar, is available here. Other tracks are available for free download at www.simritkaurmusic.com, and she is currently working on her next album.

"The universe is powered by a central, cosmic vibratory sound. The useful part of this sound current is called the Naad. This is the mystic force revered by sages and yogis. Simrit has a rare and precious power: She can interlock and interrelate with this sound current and open spaces where prayers are answered.
Simrit sings from a place of spacious happiness and her voice carries the pure sounds of limitless joy and celestial blessings, the enchanting sounds of endless, wondrous possibility." ...Harijiwan
